Location
The proposed site for Nirah is 4 miles south of Bedford, a pleasant riverside town situated in easy reach of London, Oxford and Cambridge and with no end of facilities for cultural and leisure pursuits.

Previously owned by the London Brick Company, the site is a 250-acre pit used to extract clay for the production of bricks since 1897. In the 1930s, these brick works were the largest in the world, with 135 chimneys, employing 2000 people and producing 500 million bricks per year.
While the London Brick Company still produces over 100 million bricks each year, many of its disused pits in the area have been flooded to form lakes or used as landfill sites. The development of Nirah will thus give a real boost to the redevelopment of this formerly industrial area.
At the same time, the nearby Forest of Marston Vale Centre is similarly working to transform 61 miles of the local landscape by planting over 5 million trees by 2030.
